Endolaser
Varicose Vein Surgery with Laser, or Endolaser, is a procedure indicated for the treatment of large vessels such as the saphenous vein, perforating veins and even larger varicose veins.
Without cuts or stitches, this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia and light sedation, with no need for hospitalization. There is no need for rest after the procedure.
Indications
Varicose vein treatment with endolaser is indicated for practically all cases, and is even the option of choice, as it is minimally invasive, with lower complication rates and excellent results.
Advantages
The advantages of treating varicose veins with endolaser are numerous: it is a minimally invasive procedure, without incisions, without the need for major anesthesia (spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia), without the need for long periods of rest, with a quick return to daily activities. Furthermore, it is the procedure considered the gold standard in the treatment of varicose veins according to medical literature, which means that it is the best treatment available at the moment.
Procedure
We use local anesthesia and light sedation to perform the procedure safely and calmly. An ultrasound-guided puncture (small hole) is made in the vein to be treated and an endolaser fiber is inserted into the vein using an introducer device. After intumescence (a technique in which serum is injected around the vein to empty it and separate it from the surrounding tissues), we perform thermal ablation (application of heat waves that will close the vein) of the veins, also guided in real time by ultrasound. In addition, we can use conscious sedation to improve patient comfort instead of intravenous sedation. This procedure can be performed in our clinic or in a day hospital.
Post-treatment
After varicose vein treatment with endolaser, there is no need for long periods of rest. Daily activities should be resumed within 24 to 48 hours of the procedure. There is usually no pain, bruising or other complications after varicose vein treatment with endolaser. Elastic stockings should be worn as per medical advice. Post-operative follow-up visits and medical monitoring are essential to achieve the expected results.
Expected results
The results of varicose vein treatment with endolaser are the complete closure of the treated veins, which will no longer be visible and will no longer impair circulation. We usually achieve these results without the presence of bruising, phlebitis, pain or other complications. Improvement in circulation, symptoms and appearance of the legs is visible in the first few days after surgery.
